Breinrock has submitted applications for a Crypto-Asset Service Provider (CASP) license and a Payment Institution (PI) license under the EU’s Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) regulation. The filings were made through Breinrock s.r.o., the group’s Czech entity, and submitted to the Czech National Bank.

If approved, the licenses would let Breinrock operate as an authorised crypto-asset service provider and payment institution across the EU market.

Tapping the Wider European Market

A MiCA authorisation carries passporting rights, meaning a license granted by one national regulator allows a firm to offer crypto-asset services across the European Economic Area without filing separately in each member state.

According to the group, Breinrock holds regulatory licenses across Canada, the United Kingdom, the UAE, the Czech Republic and Switzerland, and states that it serves clients in more than 150 countries.

The CASP and PI applications represent an extension of that existing regulatory footprint into the EU’s harmonised crypto and payments framework, rather than a first entry into a regulated market.

MiCA Changes the European Crypto Landscape

MiCA is the EU’s unified regulatory framework for crypto-asset services, covering areas including custody, trading platforms, exchange services and advisory work on crypto-assets. The framework replaced a patchwork of national regimes that previously governed crypto firms operating in the bloc.

The regulation’s transitional period, which allowed firms already operating under national licenses to continue serving clients while their MiCA applications were reviewed, expired on July 1, 2026.

Firms that had not secured authorisation by that date were required to either transfer their clients to an authorised provider or wind down their crypto-asset activities. Coverage of the deadline noted a wave of last-minute approvals.

The pace of licensing has varied by member state. Germany’s regulator, BaFin, shortened its own transition period to December 2025, ahead of the EU-wide deadline, and much of its early CASP activity involved banks focused on custody rather than trading. Interestingly, Germany accounts for 22% of active legal entities on the ESMA’s MiCA registry.

Breinrock’s applications come after the general MiCA transition deadline, meaning the group’s Czech entity would go through the standard post-transition authorisation process with the Czech National Bank rather than a grandfathering pathway.
